PS: We are a safe/inclusive space who affirms and celebrates the LGBTQ+ community. Women have full equality and access to leadership. We are a place without sin shaming or money guilting. We love questions and curiosity, and it’s okay to disagree. Following the lead of Jesus, we place high value on social justice for the poor, oppressed, and marginalized. Working for peace, choosing kindness, listening to others, and embracing differences can go a long way. Come as you are and let’s grow together!
GivingTuesday
GivingTuesday is an opportunity for people around the world to use their individual power of generosity to support their communities. It is a day with the simple idea of encouraging people to do good, and it’s grown into a global movement that inspires millions of people to give, collaborate, do acts of kindness, and celebrate generosity. GivingTuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States, which is on November 28th this year! Instead of having such a big focus on the consumerism of Black Friday, join us in observing this generosity movement by considering giving a tax-deductible donation.
By making a donation to The Commons you are:
Supporting the other organizations we support: Speak Up for the Poor, Flagstaff Family Food Center, Beloved Arise, Life Ansanm, Northern Arizona Interfaith Council
Helping allow this type of progressive and inclusive theology to remain active and available in Flagstaff
Making it possibly for us to afford the costs of our Sunday service space and programming (each service costs an average of $550, not including staff salaries)
Supporting the programs that we sustain: Immigrant Family Food Share, Jubilee Ministry for Young Adults with Disabilities, Flagstaff Youth Co-Op, Kids Ministry, Community Groups, Campouts, Mexico House Building Trips, etc.
Making our staff healthy and sustainable in order for us to continue to walk alongside people in their lives, questions, heartbreaks, and celebrations; as well as giving us space to dream about more ways to help this community flourish.
If you would like to make a one time donation or set up an automatic monthly donation to The Commons, that would mean the world to us. You can do so by clicking this link. (PS: If you scroll down and click “bank account” instead of “credit/debit” and pay by using your routing/account numbers, this helps there be less processing fees.)
In the spirit of GivingTuesday, The Commons is volunteering at the Flagstaff Family Food Center on Tuesday, November 28th from 10:45am to 1pm. We will be distributing family food boxes from the warehouse on Huntington Dr. If you would like to join us in helping feed our neighbors at the outdoor, drive-thru food distribution, let us know! With the help of volunteers, FFFC is able to give out groceries to over 200 families per day! Volunteer roles include: loading food into cars, controlling traffic, packing food into boxes, and writing down client information.
Together we can unleash the power of people and organizations to transform communities and the world.
Sabbath Sunday - No Service on November 26th
Sabbath is a day to find harmony and peace. Sabbath is rest, but it is active, joy-filled rest. Leave anything that brings up anxiety or care that would silence your spirit of joy behind. Save that for the next day. Do not let worries consume your day. Sabbath is a gift to receive and accept. The Sunday after Thanksgiving we are having a Sabbath Sunday, where service is canceled and we make space for our volunteers, staff, and community to be mindful about this type of rest. You are made to rest. You are made for joy. We encourage you to make this Sabbath whatever you need. Consider if you need time with yourself, or if you would like to make plans with those that bring you a feeling of peace and those that remind you of your belovedness. Here’s some ideas of how you could practice this Sabbath:
Do a self-care practice (nap, take a bath, clean a space that makes you feel happy, intentional breathing)
Do something creative that activates your child-like imagination
Cook something yummy that makes your body feel good
Call someone who gives you life
Play a board game
Read and/or Journal
Look at something beautiful and meditate on how God is in it and in you
Find joyful movement in your body (stretch, dance, go on a walk)

We are moving locations! New location starts on Sunday, August 27th
We're so excited to finally be making the move to Federated Community Church starting August 27th! We have loved our partnership with Trinity Heights these last two years and will always be thankful for the community opening up their building to give us a home post COVID. We are thrilled to partner with Federated as we have connected with their leadership and realized how much our two communities have in common. We're excited to be back downtown again and be in such a historic building. We have been working hard refreshing some kids ministry rooms and moving all our stuff over so we can really feel good in our new home. Hope to see you there soon!
In-person service is held each Sunday at 4:30 pm starting on August 27th. Service is located at the Federated Community Church building, 400 W Aspen Ave, Flagstaff, AZ 86001. Parking is available on the west side of the building, along the street, and in the farmers market parking lot just south of the library. We hope you can get to service closer to 4:15pm the first couple weeks to look around and get a feel for where everything is in the new space. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!
Help us collect food and supplies for local immigrant families in need!
We need help gathering Corn Tortillas, Oranges, Bananas, and Cereal. If you would like to volunteer to bring food or pack boxes, call/text Gretta at 928-310-1018.
If you would like to donate financially you have the option to Venmo us @thecommonschurch or donate through our website and we will purchase supplies on your behalf.
If you have any questions email info@flagstaffcommons.com or call us!
